Mirroring over hotel Wi-Fi

kimberlyto6
Last week I was in a hotel for a work trip, and I tried mirroring a video from my iPhone to the room TV. The Wi-Fi looked decent at first, but the stream kept freezing every couple of minutes, and the TV would randomly disconnect like it was tired of trying. Now I’m wondering if anyone here actually trusts hotel Wi-Fi for screen mirroring, or if you all bring some backup option so you’re not stuck watching everything on a small phone screen.

I travel a lot, and hotel networks are a total gamble — sometimes solid, sometimes barely good enough to load email. Mirroring over them works only if the room TV is on the same network and the connection isn’t overloaded. I usually rely on an app that doesn’t require logging into the TV and connects as long as both devices share a network. This one Wirelessly mirror iPhone has been the most reliable for me. If the hotel Wi-Fi is slow or isolated per room, I just use my portable travel router to create my own little network and the mirroring stays smooth.

From what I’ve seen, the biggest issue in hotels isn’t speed but how unpredictable the network layout is. Some places isolate every device, so the phone can’t see the TV at all. Others throttle traffic at certain hours and everything stutters. I’ve had better luck when I avoid peak times and place my devices near the door where the signal tends to be stronger. It’s not perfect, but it usually keeps streaming from falling apart halfway through a movie.
