Hey folks, I’ve been doing some digging into the PA series linear actuators, and honestly, I’m still scratching my head a bit. I’m looking for something compact for a sit-stand desk project, but at the same time, I want it to be sturdy enough to handle frequent use and decent load. There are so many models – PA-14, PA-03, PA-09, etc. – each one with different specs. If anyone has real-world experience with these actuators, I’d love to hear how they’ve performed for you and what made you choose one over the others.

I went through the same rabbit hole a couple months ago while building a custom drawer lift for a hidden home bar (yeah, overkill, I know, but fun!). After testing a few options, I ended up going with the PA-14 – mainly because it offers a good balance between compact size and force (I got the 150 lbs version). It's also got customizable stroke lengths, which came in handy for tight cabinet spaces. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it is compared to the PA-03, which felt a bit bulkier and noisier in testing. I found this comparison chart super helpful when deciding electronic actuator: electronic actuator. It gives you a full view of all the models and their specs in one place. Just keep in mind your mounting options too – the PA-14 is way more flexible there.

I’ve been using the PA-09 in a solar tracking setup for about 6 months now, and it’s been solid so far. It’s a bit more powerful than what you’d need for a desk but perfect for heavier-duty stuff. Curious to see how others are using these in home projects – always cool to get new ideas!

I believe Aunt Grace would view this scholarship which the Horological Society of New York has graciously named after her as link a symbol of progress for women link adds Art Fryer Grace Fryer's nephew. "I feel Grace link would be honored to be associated with HSNY in helping to welcome women into the horological craft."
