And then some questions about the planet were finally answered. The Mariner 4 spacecraft link performed the first flyby of link Mars in July of '65 and then in '76 Viking 1 and Viking 2 actually touched down on the Red Planet offering data on soil samples the link atmosphere and even sent back images of the Martian surface. And of course Opportunity the rover that landed on Mars in 2004 sent its last images back to Earth last year. Oppy may you rest in peace.
