Vijay Rupani is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 2016 to September 2021. Born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon (now Yangon), Burma, Rupani’s family moved to Rajkot, Gujarat, following political unrest in Myanmar. He holds degrees in Arts and Law from Saurashtra University.
Rupani began his political journey through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), eventually rising through the ranks of the BJP. He served in various roles including Mayor of Rajkot, Member of Rajya Sabha, and Cabinet Minister in Gujarat before becoming Chief Minister.
