What to Put on Rope Burn from Dog Leash?

Hey everyone,

I had a bit of an incident today while walking my dog, and I'm hoping for some advice. 😅 My dog got super excited and pulled hard on the leash, which ended up giving me a rope burn on my hand. It stings pretty badly, and I want to make sure I treat it properly to avoid infection or scarring.

So, what do you all recommend what to put on rope burn from dog leash? Here's what I've done so far:

Washed the area with soap and water.
Patted it dry gently with a clean towel.
Some questions I have:

Should I apply a specific cream or ointment?
Is it better to leave it uncovered, or should I use a bandage?
Are there any signs I should watch out for to ensure it’s healing well?
I'd really appreciate any tips, especially if you've dealt with something similar. Also, if there’s a way to prevent this from happening again (like gloves or leash alternatives), I'd love to hear about that too!
