Yeager's preference for simplicity and reliability in his watches was reflected in his deeply pragmatic approach to flying. Though he had a reputation as a daredevil Yeager believed firmly link that taking link risks for their own sake was foolhardy. In his memoirs he reflected "I was always afraid of link dying. Always. It was my fear that made me learn everything I could about my airplane and my emergency equipment and kept me flying respectful of my machine and always alert in the cockpit."
