We recently refreshed a few short links inside our data center and ended up using SFP-10G-SR-S since everything was already running over multimode fiber. I honestly did not expect much from it beyond basic functionality, but it has been smoother than anticipated. Plugged it in, connected the fiber, and the links came up immediately without any tweaking.
What stood out to me is how consistent it’s been day to day. These links get a fair amount of traffic, and there has not been a single flap or odd error since deployment. Even during maintenance windows and reboots, the optics come back up clean every time. That kind of predictability is easy to overlook until you realize how much time it saves.
Another thing I noticed is that it seems pretty forgiving. Some of the patch panels are older, and while everything is within spec, the cabling is not exactly brand new. Still, SFP-10G-SR-S has not complained at all, which makes it a solid choice for internal runs where you just want things to work.
For those of you using
SFP-10G-SR-S regularly, has your experience been similar? Or have you run into any quirks over time that make you cautious about relying on it long term?
