I have been living In Italy for 5 years now. I wrote this 4 years ago and it still holds true. Here are some brief impressions.
When I first got here it was a bit hectic but since my wife speaks fluent Italian we settled in quickly. Living here as a resident would have been impossible without someone speaking Italian. The Government and bureaucracy is so complex and convoluted that someone familiar with the system is a must...not just familiar with the language but familiar with how the system really operates. There are so many layers of regulations and rules that a guide is required. Fortunately, my wife fit the bill.
