Making steampunk elegant

I love steampunk fashion but sometimes it looks more like a costume than an actual stylish outfit. I’m aiming for something classy that still has that distinct steampunk vibe. Any ideas on where to learn how to nail that balance?

I’ve always liked steampunk fashion, but some outfits can look a little too theatrical for my taste. I wanted something that felt refined, almost like a period-inspired outfit you could wear to a nice dinner.
