How to choose a base for a playground?

ron4

Hello everyone! I want to make a playground with swings and a slide at my dacha. I thought that I needed to make a good base so that the children would not get hurt and so that everything would be stable. I heard that you can make  gravel pad or a concrete slab, but I don’t know what is better for safety and durability. The playground will be on a slightly uneven area where there is sometimes standing water after rain. Has anyone encountered this? What would you recommend — concrete or gravel? Safety and comfort for children are very important

Great idea! We are just making playgrounds and often recommend a gravel base with good drainage. The specialists from https://www.siteprep.com/ make such pads — first they level the area, arrange drainage, then put a layer of crushed stone, and on top you can put a soft covering, for example, wood chips or artificial turf. It is safe, the water drains quickly, and the playground remains dry. Concrete is also an option, but it is hard and can be dangerous if you fall. If safety and comfort for children are important, then soft gravel will be better.

I recently made a playground for my nephews - we chose gravel with wood chips on top. The children are happy, the playground does not slip, and dries quickly after rain. The main thing is that the base is level and has good water drainage.
