There have been several things named Outlook. The original and still most important is the email, contact, calendar, and scheduling component of Microsoft Office. It was the first email system to integrate the calendar and ability to find potentially open times for a group of users to schedule meetings and track who has accepted meeting invitations, which made it very successful as a business application along with the Exchange server that was a required back end. There was also once something called outlook express which was a fairly horrible stripped down email client. And now there is “outlook.com” which is Microsoft’s free internet email service and a follow-on to hotmail with web and remote client access. And there are now outlook email apps for ios and android that are pretty much like everybody else’s email apps but they include a calendar and contacts view.
