It’s only purpose is to trick you into either clicking a link to a page that will download real malware onto your PC or calling a phone number for “help” with removing a virus that doesn’t even exist on your machine.

When you encounter one of the “alerts” your best course of action is to close your browser and then run a thorough malware scan with your regular antivirus and a couple of on-demand malware scanners.

If you’re unable to close the browser while one of these alerts is blaring at you, right-click on the taskbar and launch the Task Manager and use it to kill the process for the frozen browser.

These fake virus alerts are popping up right and left these days, but if you’ll remain calm you can avoid being victimized by them.
